About Us

In 1981 a young(er) Stu Keeble was made redundant from Dingwalls. But being a music engineer remained his true love, and rather than dwell on his redundancy he decided to quite literally build his own wall of sound. He cleverly (for a sound engineer anyway!) took his first name, mixed with the initial of his surname and alas STUK sound was born.

The beginnings may have been humble. He set out building his first PA, a diddy 1K system, which rumour has it is still doing the rounds today with a smaller company. The work soon (rock and) rolled in, but with the banks telling Stu that his business wouldn’t last, a quarter of a century and a few grey hairs and thousands of late nights later it was Stu who had the last laugh.

His craving for a greater sound saw him sell his 1K system, and cashed the cheque so he could build another, this time a 6K beast. The money continued to rattle in and with the help of a £40 a week grant to keep the budding sound engineer in pop and crisps, he was able to plough through the gigs night after night, building a reputation that would see him go on tour with Scottish rockers The Bay City Rollers. (How many more skeletons are there?)

Upon his return, complete with tartan scarf, he realized STUK was becoming much more than a one man job, he needed staff, a truck, and he even doubled his rig size to 12k, and it wasn't too  long before the dream of 20K of JBL system became a reality at STUK HQ.

Fast-forward to today and Stu is rarely seen behind the desk of a gig. Having trained his staff up to be the best in the region and provided them with the best equipment he is more likely to be seen filming and mixing DVDs. His accomplished team offer several professional systems that are a lifetime away from the 1K system when CDs were still a secret and a DVD sounded more like an infection than a recording device!

The staff taken on in the early days have allowed STUK to develop a winning team when it comes to event and production management, and as the company has grown their relationships with their clients have grown with them in unison, such as Folkworks who now call the stunning Sage Gateshead their new home.

We celebrated 25 years in the business in 2006, so we must have got one or two things right along the way. Some things stay the same other change out of all recognition, but the friendly faces of the STUK Sound crew are one of the things that stay the same.
